From December 18 to 20, 2020, the 10th National Landscape Ecology Annual Meeting and International Academic Seminar was successfully held in Chang'an University. IALE-China, Ecological Society of China (ESC) Landscape Ecology Professional Committee, Chang'an University, Shaanxi Normal University and Xi'an University of Science and Technology sponsored the meeting. Chang'an University School of Land Engineering, Shenyang Institute of Applied Ecology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University School of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences / State Key Laboratory of Urban and Regional Ecology, Shaanxi Normal University School of Geography and Tourism and Xi'an University of Science and Technology College of Geology and Environment were the executive organizers. ESC-Shanxi, Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Land Consolidation, Ministry of Natural Resources Key Laboratory of Degraded and Unused Land Remediation Project were the co-sponsors.
The Annual Meeting focused on Watershed Landscape: High Quality Development and Ecosystem Protection and Restoration. 11 sessions were offered throughout the meeting: New Fields and New Methods of Landscape Ecology, Balance of Landscape Process and Ecosystem Services, Ecological Protection and Sustainable Development of the Yellow River Basin, Three-dimensional Landscape Pattern and Ecological Environment Process, Ecological Restoration and Land Comprehensive Consolidation, Ecological Protection and Coastal Landscape Management of the Yangtze River Basin, Terrace Landscape Ecology and Sustainable Management, Big Data and Urban Sustainability, Urban Landscape Ecology and Human Settlement Environment Improvement, Agricultural Landscape Biodiversity Protection and Ecosystem Restoration and Landscape Change and Ecological Protection in Cold and Arid Areas. Thousands of attendees participated in the synchronous online meeting and 350 people from 90 domestic and international universities, institutions took part in the physical meeting. Nearly 150 domestic scholars and 9 international experts made inspiring academic presentations.
Zhang Wen, Chief Environmental Planner of ZEHO Design Group, was invited to attend the academic seminar on Ecological Protection and Coastal Landscape Management of the Yangtze River Basin in the 6th sessions, and made a speech entitled Ecological Restoration Practice of Nature-Based Solutions.
ZEHO has been actively practicing ecological design of Nature-Based Solutions for a long term. Three ecological restoration projects were shared during the session: The Ecological Restoration of Erhai Lake Riparian Buffer Zone, The Eco River Bank Design of Lingshan Island and The Yudai River Wetland Restoration. ZEHO shared solutions and strategies for current difficulties and hot spots in river, lake and wetland restoration and coastal region ecological restoration. The Attendees united in praise for the presentation and expressed their commitment to work cooperatively with ZEHO in the fields of production, education and research. Academia and ZEHO can take respective advantages and achieve win-win cooperation in ecological preservation and restoration of Yangtze River Basin lakes and wetlands, plateau lakes and southeast coastal region.
